Just found your podcast and have been enjoying a sampling of your recent broadcasts including BEST IN SHOW, which is also a favourite of mine.

Although the film is set in various locales including Philadelphia, it was actually filmed right here in my hometown of Vancouver, BC, Canada - thus an extra layer of fun is spotting the various hometown locations. But interestingly, this also provides a little insight into the the improvisational technique of the actors.

Hitchcock and Posey’s characters do indeed get a laugh by saying they met at two adjacent Starbucks… but the thing is, there ARE two adjacent Starbucks here on Robson Street, the heart of the downtown shopping district. It’s pretty clear that they noticed this and worked it into the improv.

I’d love BEST IN SHOW anyway, but the local angle definitely endears it to me even more!

This is another great film from the Spinal Tap guys and, while it’s not as good as “This is Spinal Tap”, it certainly one of the closest films to it. There are some fantastic lines in it and it’s so well acted too, I must have seen it a dozen times now after making friend’s watch it because they are Spinal Tap fans.

“pine nut, peanut, pistachio nut” and my favourite, the way he says “macadamia nut.” What?!?! Fantastic *****

As is obvious from the podcast, I really enjoy Christopher Guest’s films; particularly this one. However, for me, This Is Spinal Tap is still the king. It reigns supreme due not only to the film, but becasue of its originality. It is the first signifigant, mockumentary I know of. I agree Pete, bring back Marty DiBergi! He goes to eleven.

Although I love pretty much everyone involved in this film, I’m honestly not a big fan. I saw it for the first time a few years ago and many of my friends loved it, but I didn’t really find it very funny. I�ve seen bits and pieces of Best in Show since then on cable TV, and there are some entertaining moments, but nothing that compares to the other mockumentary that seems to be associated with this one, This is Spinal Tap. I find Spinal Tap to be outright hilarious and it is one of my all-time favorite films. If only we could get Rob Reiner to stop directing cheesy chick flicks and resurrect Marty DiBergi to direct Christopher Guest and Michael McKean again we might have something.

If I remember correctly, I wasn’t a huge fan of Spinal Tap the first time I saw it, so perhaps I’ll give Best in Show another go. Keep the reviews coming, Michael…I’m looking forward to the Cinephile Series on The Wild Bunch!

Just a fantastic movie! I think I’ve seen it 3 or 4 times, but after listening to the podcast on my way home last night, I think I’ll rent it over the weekend!

Michael, I could REALLY tell you like this movie, because of the amount of times you said “great”!!!!

I loved Best in Show too, but ironically, I’m struggling to get through Spinal Tap (watched up to the 1 hour point last night) after not seeing it since it came out. Was a stoner rocker fan but the humor seems dated. Christopher Guests eyes gave me chillls of the late Johhny Ramone.

One of my favorite movies all-time, maybe even better than Spinal Tap, by thr same comedic geniuses of course. Great to watch from start to finish as well as just a scene here and there. Deleted scenes are funny too. In short, the perfect movie to own.
