Riveting! I wasn't sure I was going to like this film at first, but wow. Lady Kaede takes the prize as the all time most monstrous villaness. I've never seen anything like her or this movie before.

Michael,

What an amazing piece of art. I picked up a rental last Friday night after listening to your podcast.

The plan was for my wife and I to listen to the podcast first and then watch the movie together. Problem was that one of our kiddos was feeling bad, and our plan got sidetracked. However, I did get to watch it after everyone went to sleep.

I really enjoyed the story telling and wow...how about Lady Kaede?!

This is one of those films that I need to watch 2 or 3 more times to really become immersed in it. I feel like I just went through the Louvre or Musee d'Orsey in 30 minutes and I need to truly go back and study all the hallways.

Thank you for the review!

Good review=. As a Japanese film buff, I winced at your pronounciations, but please don't let that stop you from reviewing more Japanese films! I hope you expose your listeners to other great directors like Masaki Kobayashi (Harakiri is amazing) and Takeshi Kitano.

Tetsuo,

That is the risk I take every time I do one of these - particularly the Japanese films. I'd hate o think I mispronounce something, but I know that it happens. However, I do appreciate the correction. Thanks.

Man, I'm sorry to say this, but I couldn't listen to this all the way through. I mean honestly, it was starting to hurt physically every time you said "Kagemusha". No offense, but if you're going to laud something as excellent and all that, could you at least make the effort to learn the name? The "g" in Japanese is /always/ a hard G. The way you said it would be "Kajemusha" which is technically not even valid Japanese. I understand you don't know Japanese, but dude....
