Peckinpah and Fuller

If you have any interest in great directors then I suggest either of these two books. At the beginnning of September we took the family to Hawaii and I packed along a few books I have been meaning to read. After having finshed them I can highly recommend both.

If They Move . . . Kill ‘Em!: The Life and Times of Sam Peckinpah is a great biography covering Sam Peckinpah’s life. It follows him through his childhood, how he got started in Hollywood and has great behind the scenes stories about the circumstances surrounding the production of some amazing films. You’ll want to run right out and see The Wild Bunch again.

A Third Face : My Tale of Writing, Fighting and Filmmaking is a terrific autobiography about Samuel Fuller. The best way to describe this book is that you will be constantly saying to yourself, “there is no way this is true” then you’ll remember it is Sam Fuller and better yet there will be a picture to confirm the story’s veracity. I really enjoyed this one.

If you are interested in great American directors - check these out, they both offer insight into the craft and business of directing films.
