iTunes, Living with Danny Bonaduce

I toured the iTunes Podcast top 100 today. Apparently those of us who have been involved in podcasting since the beginning have missed a huge market segment! Podcast Alley and iPodder.org need to add directory categories immediately - fake phone calls! Our friends in traditional radio and now “Featured Podcasts” have struck upon listener gold - calling people and screwing with them on the phone. This is podcasting… er I mean radio - shoot I don’t kow what this is besides being asinine.

Here are a few of the descriptions of the new podcasting elite.

Z 100 Phone Taps with Elvis Duran
Everybody loves a good phone prank, and no one is better at it than Z100’s Elvis Duran and The Z Morning Zoo in New York City.

No one is better mind you, next up…

Ramiro and Pebbles Jam Scams
Hear Ramiro, the Freakin’ Puerto Rican, phone unsuspecting people to “Jam Scam” them.

I’m just so pleased someone has chosen to name themselves Pebbles, now my Flintstones fascination is validated!

Best of all is # 40 - Number #40 in iTunes podcast ranking mind you!

Bucked Up Calls
The Cooter Family

Want to know what is in this high ranking RSS feed - nothing - zero - nada!

Nothing in the feed!!! #40

No shows, no “Bucked up Calls”, but he is iTunes ready with graphics etc. Obviously chosen for his foresight in the podcasting arena.

I am starting to understand how Dave Winer feels.

We have worked so hard and the bright spot in my day is that I am in a directory with Danny Bonaduce!!

Don’t get me wrong, I know things are going to change. I appreciate and respect that. I understand the idea of major media gettng involved. I like the fact that they are here. Heck, I have been hired to host, produce and help them get involved in podcasting.

That does not change the fact that I am in the same directory as a Partridge! ;)

I don’t think Apple really “gets” podcasting. They have rolled out a time-shifted radio directory with a bunch of us thrown in as filler. Not to worry, the market (listeners) will sort this out soon enough…

I just hope that Apple updates our directory entries sometime soon, as it looks pretty ugly with all the “Unknown” artists (nice to see your name on 2 of your 4 feeds, BTW). Podcast Alley remains the premiere podcast directory; for now, anyway.

Don’t worry - That’s just opening day stuff, it’ll stabilize out. I subscribed to you through iTunes as one of my first subs. :)

Of course, now I have Odeo and iTunes battling it out….:)
