Michael, great to relive this movie which I haven't seen since it came out in the theater (Ritz Philadelphia). Will never forget my date was a wild one named Nicole, probably married with kids now. Agreed with everything you said but be honest and tell your audience that Vince Vaughn was way over the top in Made.
Enjoyed meeting you at Podcast Expo, how about a review of Wings of Desire, the most diifficult movie I ever eventually made it through.

Eric,

Right you are. One of the beauties of audio, when you make a mistake at minute 6 do you leave it alone or rerecord. I'm good for a few mistakes in each review. Like you though, I like finding them. When I read Roger Eberts stuff I am surprised how often I find mistakes in print - and those are easy to correct. I knew I'd blown the reference to where Mikey grew up, I had Favreau (who is from Chicago) on the brain.

Thanks again.

Nice job on one of my fave films, Mike.

Couple of corrections:

-- It's Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, not "Big Voodoo Daddy"
(check out my review of a recent BBVD show, with heavy Swingers references, here: http://dumpsterbust.blogspot.com/2005_04_01_dumpsterbust_archive.html)

-- Mikey (who is rarely, if ever, referred to as "Mike" within the film) is from New York, not Chicago... thus the whole discussion about how you can avoid trouble in LA but in New York, "trouble finds you."

There are several other references to New York as well.

I'm glad so many of you enjoyed this Reel Review. Thank you to everyone who has commented. I'm particularly pleased that Todd chimed in having never seen the film before. While all comments are appreciated, it is when someone sees the film for the first time as a result of my show that I get that special sense of satisfaction .

Thanks again,

Your recent podcast review inspired me to go rent "Swingers" and watch it for the first time ever. Unfortunately, they only had the VHS version, but I went for it anyhow. I just finished watching it and loved the whole movie. It's awesome. Thank you for helping bring this film into my life!

Thanks for reminding me how much I love this movie. What sets this apart from a lot of other "young hipsters in LA" films is that Swingers has heart. And they're not faking it...you can feel the heart coming off the screen thru the writing, performances and the real friendships of most of the people involved. As always, Michael, yet another great review.

I think your podcast is great and I loved the fact that you reviewed swingers. It was my second DVD purchase back in 1998 and I watched it like 20 times when I first purchased my computer with a DVD-Rom. I'm sure you probably know, but Heather Graham was in Drugstore Cowboy, another big roll for her. It didn't put her on the map, but it did get her name out there in the early 90's. Going to go vote for you now, take care and keep up the good work.

Great review for one of the best buddy movies EVER. The cast and story is excellent and this is a movie worth buying for the commentary & bonus features alone. (you'll know what i mean!) Its almost embarrassing the number of times I've watched it!

Pure class!

Great work as always Mike. An absolute classic of a movie. Thoroughly enjoyable experience as was your coverage. Favreu and Vaughn work so well together. Check out the movie 'Made' sometime. No where near as great as 'Swingers' but Favreu and Vaughn are awesome in that one as well. Some great moments.
