Reel Reviews – Paris Texas

Paris, Texas DVD

Reel Review #21: “I knew these people… These two people. They were in love with each other. The girl was… very young, about seventeen or eighteen, I guess. And the guy was… quite a bit older. He was kind of raggedy and wild. And she was very beautiful, you know?” A great Wim Wenders film and the Palme d’Or winner at Cannes in 1984. I go a bit longer on this one only because of my pure enthusiasm for this great film. Check it out.

thanks for the “paris, texas” review. i’ve been meaning to ask you to do a review of wenders’ 1991 “until the end of the world” which is probably harder to find than “paris, texas.” UTEOTW is a film that still rattles around in my head – i’m lucky enough to own it on LD and i’m waiting for the day when it gets reissued (as a director’s cut?) on DVD. most people know this film better for its soundtrack, which stands on its own in some ways:

some links re: the film here:

we’ve passed 1999 so the story has lost a little over time but i still find it totally engrossing. and robby muller does another fantastic job.

    keep up the good work.

Scott, thanks for the suggestion. I have never seen that film, but found what I read very interesting. It is now on my radar. Thanks!

I’ve added this one to Netflix. I’m a huge Natasha fan… wow what a hottie. And a terrific actress too!

Wow your podcast(discovered it through brought back my memories of a great film. I haven’t seen the film in a long time. I just remember the opening shot coupled with Ry Cooder’s amazing soundtrack and how blown away I was by Travis walking in the desert….that and the performance of the kid who played Hunter. I love the soundtrack. It is out in my car right now. I just discovered your podcast and am looking forward to downloading them all. Keep up the good work.
